Brown Paper Bag Write your name on the outside of your bag. Fill the big with slips of paper/items that represent you and tell your story. Pick a person in your standards to complete this activity about. Recreate this activity to share the life experiences of a historical character.
Cultural Autobiography You will explore and represent your own cultural identity through writing a mini cultural autobiography. You will choose an artifact(s) that tells the class something important about your cultural identity (examples include but are not limited to: a book, a song, a game, a recipe, food). Your cultural autobiography should explain major influences on your culture. By examining our attitudes, beliefs, culture values and behaviors, we begin to discover what has influenced the ways we see and interpret the world and ourselves. Create a “cultural autobiography” for one of the people coming up in your standards. Write it from the point of view of the person.
“I AM” Poems I Am poems are a great way to explore our culture and the culture of our classroom. Practice writing your own “I am” poem. Feel free to use your own template. Create an “I Am” poem for a historical person to teach about their culture.
Schema How did we become who we are? How are we were we are now? Reflect on this thought. Construct a road map, tree, puzzle, or web that illustrates how you go this part of your life. Think about all the influences you have had and give details. Construct a comparable schema for a historical figure. Research this figure to show you understand their life experiences.
